David Williams, étudiant anglais à l'Université de Birmingham au Royaume-Uni, il devient professeur de littérature française et spécialiste du 18e siècle. Il a notamment travaillé au Département de français de l'Université de Southampton en Angleterre et au Département des langues romanes de l'Université McMaster à Hamilton au Canada.
